Great Overnight Trips From Alice Springs

Alice Springs Sunset Australia

Alice Springs is one of the most visited places in Australia’s heartland. If you’ve been lucky enough to organise your campervan hire in Alice Springs, there are a wealth of amazing overnight trips you can take into the magnificent surrounds of the Northern Territory.

Uluru, Australia

1. Uluru

It’s hard to go past a trip to Uluru when you’re in Alice. A 6-hour drive in your campervan will bring you to the footstep of this iconic Australian landmark.

Tours and guided walks are the best way to explore the red centre and you can also learn about its Aboriginal significance and ‘origins.’

If you have the time, Kata Tjuta, also known as The Olgas’ or ‘Mount Olga’, is also only 30km away.

Karlu Karlu / Devils Marbles, Northern Territory, Australia

2. Devil’s Marbles

The Devil’s Marbles, or Karlu Karlu, is a spectacular sight to be found in the Northern Territory landscape and lies around 5 hours north of Alice Springs.

Heading into the Conservation Reserve will bring you up close with these incredibly round rock formations and there is much to be learned about their sacred role in Aboriginal culture and history.

Park Your Campervan: At designated spots on the reserve itself (fees apply)

Kings Canyon National Park

3. Kings Canyon

If you love the idea of huge, towering rock walls and lush valleys in between, Kings Canyon is for you! Nestled in the Watarrka National Park, Kings Canyon is roughly 6 hours’ drive from Alice Springs. Hiking to the top of the canyon is popular during sunrise and sunset and other activities, like scenic flying, dining in the moonlight, camel touring and 4WD-ing are also available.

Park Your Campervan: At the nearby grounds of the Kings Canyon Resort

4.Katherine

It’s a long drive (about 14 hours), but if you’ve got a couple of spare days up your sleeve, Katherine is a beautiful river town located in the Lower Top End of the Northern Territory, just over 300km south of Darwin.

Katherine (the town) is the main entrance point into greater Katherine (the region), including the Nitmiluk National Park, which is home to the well-known Katherine Gorge, as well as highlights like Edith Falls, the Hot Springs and the Cutta Cutta Caves.

Park Your Campervan: At one of the many camping grounds in the National Park and surrounds. Many campervan-friendly spots can also be found on the way to Katherine, along the Stuart Highway.
