They don't call it “The Golden State” for nothing. California boasts of long summers with low humidity, making it an ideal place to go to if you like the sun and the glamour of its resident celebrities.

California Climate

With a diverse geography that includes the Pacific Coast, the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Mojave Desert, it's not surprising that the climate in California differs at almost every region. While most of the state has dry summers and wet winters, cities and towns close to the High Desert has hot summers and chilly winters due to the elevation. Cities close to the coast often experience summer fogs known as the June Gloom, but this never affects the state's reputation of being one of the sunniest places in the world. School Holidays In California

The summer holidays are between the last week of July to the first week of September. Students also get two weeks off in early April (for Easter), in late May and late December (for Christmas). There is also a weeklong Autumn break on the last week of October (for Reformation and All Souls Day).

In California, Rosa Parks Day is celebrated on February 4 and César Chávez Day is celebrated on March 31. You can also read more on Public Holidays In The USA.

Northern California Climate

The northern portion of California tends to have rainy winters and hot summers, with the heat of summer being cooled by the "delta breeze." Sacramento, the state capital, happens to be one of the sunniest places in the world between June and September. Only 170 miles away, Fresno also gets the same weather, with December and January being the coldest months in the city. San Jose is further away from the Pacific Ocean, but also has a Mediterranean climate with less rainfall courtesy of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Since it is close to Monterey Bay, Santa Cruz tends to experience early morning and night fogs during summer. You can read more about June Gloom and the weather in the most popular Northern California city in The Best Time To Visit San Francisco.

Southern California Climate

The cities in Southern California are lucky enough to still get plenty of warmth even during winters. This is most evident in San Diego, which has one of the best summer climates in the US. Cities close to the Pacific Ocean, like Newport Beach, have pleasant climates moderated by the ocean itself. Paso Robles, although also close to the coast, has two primary seasons, with summers being rather long and winters only brief and rainy. Meanwhile, winters in San Bernardino and Hesperia can get downright chilly, with frosts being common. Norco in the Riverside County as well as El Monte and Inglewood, both in the Los Angeles County, have summers that are hot and dry and winters that are cool and wet.
