There are hundreds of festivals of all sizes held throughout Australia each year. From food and wine festivals to Jazz, Blues, Film, Arts and Mulitcultural themes - there is something for everyone. Here we list the most famous festivals held in Australia every year.
Woodford Folk Festival (December)
The Woodford folk festival is held in the countryside an hour out of Brisbane in Queensland. It is an event of international renown held over six days and nights. There is a huge camping ground and facilities available, as many people attend for the entire time or a good part of it. There are at least 2000 performers and 400 events including concerts, dances, workshops, forums, street theatre, writers’ panels, film festival, comedy sessions, acoustic jams, social dialogue and debate, an entire children’s festival, art and craft workshops and late night cabarets. The festival winds up with an enthralling fire event. The best of Australia’s talent and some international guests are represented at the festival.
Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (February)
Thousands of participants attend the Sydney Mardi Gras parade and party each year. Recently Conde Nast listed it amongst the 10 most spectacular costume events in the world. With fantastic variety of flamboyant costumes, music and sights the festival is a celebration and expression of gay and lesbian life. The festival runs over four weeks in February/March each year and culminates in the fantastic parade which is viewed by hundreds of thousands of viewers each year.
