Mount Victoria

Wellington, North Island 6011

You may have already seen Mount Victoria in the movies. The lush mountain was featured in Wellingtonian director Peter Jackson's epic "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, most notably in the scene where the hobbits escape the Black Riders by hiding in a forest undergrowth. When it isn't being used as an integral filming location, you can take advantage of Mount Victoria's famous lookout point, which offers panoramic views of Auckland City, the Cook Straight and the Hutt Valley. It also has an amazing memorial to aviator Richard Byrd and is a favorite location for jogging, walking and mountain biking. Whether you're a local or a tourist, you'll have plenty to do and see in Tangi Te Keo.

Mount Victoria is a must-see when you're visiting Wellington. There are several campgrounds around the area, and MyDriveHoliday can also help you find the perfect campervan for your self-drive adventure. Simply enter your travel details into the Quote Calculator for a list of awesome motorhomes and to instantly compare rates from top New Zealand brands.

You can reach the lookout point either by car or by foot as it is only a 10-minute trip from Auckland's city centre. The peak of Mount Victoria gets really cold and windy, so prepare proper clothing.
