Early Aboriginal People were the first ones to settle down at The Forks, soon many other immigrants followed suit. Winnipeg's culture and tradition is recognized through its rich history of the fur trade, the advent of the railway, the flock of immigration, and the modern industrial age. Today, zest and energy surround the entire Forks area, making the place a favorite destination for recreation, celebration, and gathering. The Assiniboine River was once the mode of transportation for the early settlers, now it is an attraction that complements the Forks River Trail. Johnson Terminal is a shopping haven located within the Forks, with three floors dedicated to shops, cafes, restaurants, and an antique mall. Forks National Historic Site also have interpretative parks, historical buildings, a skateboard park, a port, and several indoor features.
