2. Mud Bar and Restaurant


Located on the banks of Launceston’s North Esk River, Mud Bar is a fantastic option for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Showcasing an Italian influenced menu, highlights include the grilled quail served with locally grown pinkeye potatoes. If you’re keen to stay in the area, you will find caravan parks less than 15 minutes away.

3. Red Velvet Lounge


Nestled in the sleepy town of Cygnet, this is one of Tasmania’s finest restaurants. The entire menu is stunning and the pork cotoletta served with parmesan mash, lemon and salsa verde is out of this world. Bookings are essential and the Cygnet Caravan Park is just a 10-minute walk up the street.

4. Ut Si Café


Located in a converted church, this charming café offers delicious food, fantastic coffee and incredible service. The pulled pork pizza is magnificent, their sweets are to die for, and the Longford Riverside Caravan Park is located just 15 minutes away.

5. Black Cow Bistro


Meat lovers will be in heaven at this funky Launceston restaurant, which featured in the 2013 Australian Good Food Guide Awards. You will find some of Tasmania’s finest beef here and the Cape Grim rump steak with Black Cow butter is one of the many amazing options.

6. Wild


Any restaurant with views of the Bass Strait is worth a visit, especially when the food is this good. Open for lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday, you cannot leave without trying the fennel, basil and goat cheese dumplings. The nearby Penguin Caravan Park is a great place to set up camp.

There are several camping areas available in the park that are suitable for campervans and caravans, including the Yellow Water region, the South Alligator region and the Mary River region. You will usually need to book in advance to secure your spot.

7. Stillwater


Awarded 14 chef hats, Stillwater is a culinary experience not to be missed. Set in an old flour mill on the Tamar River, Stillwater offers the best of local produce, seafood and wine and travellers often flock here to sample exquisite dishes like the wrap of slow cooked Flinders Island salt grass lamb and the Robbins Island Wagyu scotch steak. A degustation menu is also available. You’ll find the Treasure Island and Launceston Caravan Parks nearby.
