Atlanta Climate

With a favorable location right at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Atlanta gets a more pleasant climate compared to other southern cities. Just remember that summers are still warm and humid, and is one of the main reasons why the city is called “Hotlanta.”

About 250 miles away, the city of Savannah gets a similarly predictable tropical climate courtesy of its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean.

So When Is The Best Time To Visit?

The weather is most pleasant during spring and fall, when the days are still sunny and not too hot. However, there are still droves of visitors coming in all year, especially during summer. Atlanta is one of the most visited cities in the US, so if you're planning a self-drive holiday here, it is best to make early reservations on your RV rental and campground stays. MyDriveHoliday has great Motorhomes for Hire as well as RV Parks in Georgia.

Summer

June means a rise in the temperature, although July is still the hottest month in Atlanta. Humidity brings in thunderstorms all season, especially during August, so pack an umbrella with your sunblock and summer gear. Get tips on what to pack with our US Camping Checklist.

Autumn

The summer heat (and humidity) lingers in September, although the temperature becomes more pleasant in October. Fall is said to be the best time to see the natural beauty of the city, when foliage begin to change colors. November weather is much cooler, a sign that Winter is just around the corner. Pack some warm clothes for the cool evenings in Autumn.

Winter

The temperature hits the mid 50s during winter, with December only getting a few rainfall. January is usually the coldest month of the year, and this is when the city gets a light dusting of snow. The weather starts to get warmer in February, but it would still be best to bring plenty of warm clothing for your trip.

Spring

March still holds some of the chill from winter, but the weather becomes more pleasant in April and May. Spring lets you enjoy the outdoors with warm days and mild evenings, with lovely scenery as the flowers slowly begin to bloom. It would still be wise to have some warm clothes to go with your sunblock.
