The Great Australian Doorstep

pic1The Great Australian Doorstep is a fantastic, and often hilarious, insight into travel around Australia by caravan and motorhome. Hosted by AFL Legend Peter ‘Spida’ Everitt, his wife Sheree and their 4 young children – Boston 2, Anais 8, Summer 9, Caitlyn 15. They invite you to jump aboard, as they hit the road exploring one of the worlds most exquisite countries, Australia. Visiting small country towns, large urban cities, gorgeous coastal beaches and the intriguing Outback. Spida and Sheree drive across the vast and beautiful country, without guide books, relying instead on locals to show them secret locations and of course a great time! With the pictures you can see its both awe-inspiring and fascinating. You simply can not afford to travel Australia, without seeing their DVD series first.

Peter ‘Spida’ Everitt, is one of Australias most famous Australian Rules Football players. Playing more than 300 games over his 17 year career. He retired in October 2008 and took to the road with his young family, exploring his home country and all the wonderful things found right on his doorstep – hence the name Great Australian Doorstep.

With not a map or guidebook insight, they cruise around Australia, discovering some amazing things to see and do, things you will not find in an ordinary travel brochure. Each episode gives you important Travel Tips and some great Cooking ideas for easy cooking on the road. All their Travel Tips and Cooking Recipes can be seen on their website www.greataustraliandoorstep.com

pic2You will get first hand, great ideas about travelling with children and in their case 4 of them! They do their schooling on the road and the Everitts have some very important ideals when it comes to schooling their children. “First off, you must have a meeting with each childs teachers. Its so important that you fully understand your childs weaknesses and strengths, and you have to strongly focus on their weaknesses to help them improve. The teachers here in Australia are fantastic and very supportive of the children spending 4 months every year on the road. We take a months worth of work with us on the outset, then when its finished we send it back to their teachers for their response, then they forward us the next months work. Each day I try to keep to a routine, with ours its school time Monday to Friday from 3-5pm. You will be amazed at how much work they can get thru in 2 hours, as there are no disruptions like in the classroom and no having to wait for other children to finish etc. Plus add in the invaluable knowledge that they learn on a day to day basis, learning so much about Australia. Things they could never learn in a classroom.

The Everitts have just finished filming Series 2 of their TV Show, and will begin on Series 3 in February next year. Sheree is a Kiwi girl, from New Zealand and they plan to head down to New Zealand at the end of 2010 to film a Series down there too.
