Set aside in 1926 to preserve primitive character and made part of the National Wilderness Preservation in 1964, the majestic rock formations that compose this wilderness were shaped by great glacier encrustation. BWCAW contains over 1200 miles of canoe routes, 15 hiking trails, approximately 2000 designated campsites. This wilderness gem is located in the northern third of the Superior National Park in northeastern Minnesota and extends nearly 150 miles along International Boundary adjacent to Canada’s Quetico Provincial Park.
