KIDS TRAVEL AUSTRALIA
Australia is a very family friendly travel destination. There are heaps of affordable things to see and do that will interest the whole family. Traveling in a motorhome rental vehicle will give you the freedom to choose the destinations and attractions that suit your family, time restraints and budget. Here you can check out what each state has to offer.
AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY
National Zoo and Aquarium
Five minutes from the centre of Canberra the zoo houses animals in large open environments setup for easy viewing of the animals. You can see native and exotic animals including tigers, lions and bears. Tours are available for close up encounters with the cuddly animals and hand feeding of the larger animals.
National Museum of Australia
The museum has some excellent interactive activities for kids including ‘Our Place’, a kids play and discovery area, K-Space allows kids to design a futuristic life in Australia and is hands on, and The Story Place, where there are puppets, story telling and videos related to the museums exhibits – all set inside a Boab Tree!
The Bird Walk
The Bird Walk houses over 500 colourful birds in a large aviary. The birds are able to fly free and visitors can view them from the walkways. There are some young parrots which are able to be handfed. The bird walk is open every day and is located just outside Canberra.
NEW SOUTH WALES
The Beaches
New South Wales has many famous beaches including Bondi and Manly. Along the entire coastline you will find gorgeous beaches perfect for the family. There are many patrolled beaches for kids, and adults, to swim safely between the flags whilst being watched by Australia’s famed Surf Lifesavers. The water is clear and the sun is warm and best of all its free!
Australian National Maritime Museum
This is Australias most visited maritime museum, with displays on Australian Maritime history, waterways and the sea. There are great activities for the kids including The Kids Deck with Activities like games, puzzles and creative crafts.
Sydney Wildlife World
Sydney Wildlife World has a huge array of over 6000 Australian animals living in their natural ecosystems and habitats, including snakes, possums, quolls, butterflies and birds – It is a world class exhibition located in the heart of Darling Harbour.
QUEENSLAND
The Beaches
Queensland is renowned for its glorious beaches including the Gold Coast,
Sunshine Coast and Noosa Heads. Also, further north there is the world famous Great Barrier Reef. With activities including glass bottom boats, snorkeling and diving there is something to suit the whole family. With plenty of caravan parks being located right on the water or very close to it, it is easy to plan a holiday in your Motorhome rental vehicle that includes plenty of sun, fun and surf.
Australia Zoo
Made famous by the late Steve Irwin, Australia’s very own crocodile hunter, this zoo is a showcase of magnificent animals and amazing wildlife action! See spectacular shows including the crocodile feeding show, get your photo taken with a huge python. check out the Bengal Tiger cubs or hand feed an Asian Elephant! The zoo is located an hour north of Brisbane.
Wet’n’Wild Water World
Located on the Gold Coast this theme park is jam packed full of slides, pools, wave pools and heaps more watery action. All the pools are heated so it is open year round.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Monarto Zoological Park
The zoo is located 45 minutes from Adelaide, the states capital city. It is an open range sanctuary located on a 1,000 hectare property. They run breeding programs for rare and endangered species including white Rhinoceros andhave australias largest Giraffe herd. Trained tour guides lead safari bus and walking tours every day of the year.
Adelaide Zoo
A few minutes walk from the centre of the city this zoo hosts over 1400 exotic and native animals including reptiles, birds, mammals and fish in splendid botanical environments.
TASMANIA
Tahune Forest Airwalk and Visitor Centre
Located on the banks of the Huon River the Tahune Forest Airwalk is a 20 minute loop over two swinging bridges. This area has many shelters and tables for picnickers and travelers to relax in and enjoy the natural surroundings.
VICTORIA
Melbourne Aquarium
Located in the heart of Melbourne the aquarium is home to over 10,000 aquatic animals and is open 9.30am until 6.00pm daily. With amazing adventures for the whole family the aquarium spans four levels! They have glass bottom boats, presentations and feeding sessions, heaps of interactive activities plus heaps more.
Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit
This iconic track is fantastic adventure for the family. You can try a triple lap ride around the circuit with an experienced racing driver, view the motorsports display including displays of vintage, classic and contemporary cars and bikes and view areas like the Control Tower, Media Centre, Pit lane and Pit Roof! It is located 90mins outside Melbourne on Phillip Island which is accessible by road.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Broome
There are many activities for people travelling with kids to Broome such as the crocodile park, camel rides and the Broome Hovercraft.
Whiteman Park Recreation and Conservation Reserve
With bushwalking trails, a birds of prey centre, bike and walk paths, playgrounds, sports facilities, picnic shelters, a wildlife park plus heaps more, there is certainly heaps here to entertain all ages. The park covers 4,300 hectares of land and entry is free. It is a 25 minute drive from Perth, the capital of the state.
