Driving Directions

It should come as no surprise to visitors when it comes to Darwin being Asian, even if it is Australian. It is much closer to Jakarta and much nearer to Singapore.

This small cosmopolitan city offers a variety of attraction to suit every taste. And driving is the best way to see Darwin, as many of the sights and destinations are spread out. Traffic and parking with your Campervan Rental Australia is not a worry.

With miles and miles of unpolluted beaches like the Mindil Beach, Australia, you can enjoy swimming in the sea, but be cautious during October - May though, the Box jellyfish are not that friendly.

Fishing and even blue water fishing can be an alternate activity, especially for the locals where they flock to catch a prized barramundi. Its vibrant arts scene includes the Darwin Festival and “Bass in the Grass” concert with in and outdoor live music and acts. The region has extensive gardens and parks for visitors’ recreation and information. There are still more things to do in Darwin, other than the ones I have mentioned.

Make this an unforgettable Darwin experience with your Australia Motorhome!

Doctors Gully Fish Feeding – Treat yourself to an unforgettable experience and visit Aquascene at Doctors Gully. You feed the fish by hand and they’re not so little. Luckily, they don’t bite hard! Word gets around fast if you have a handful of feed. The attraction has been featured in most magazines and television programs. Fish like milkfish, catfish, mullet, bream and barramundi can be seen close and touched, too, as they compete with each other for food. Other species such as rays, cod and diamond fish can be seen if you watch closely. This unique attraction introduces you to several marine species. Feeding is dependent on the high tide, so call for the schedule which varies per month.

Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory – A cultural institution with a tropical garden setting on Darwin Harbour. The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) houses the art, history and culture of the area. The MAGNT has five major permanent galleries, a touring gallery, a theatre, the Museum shop, educational facilities, and the Cornucopia Museum Cafe. Also, check out the 18 foot giant Saltwater Crocodile on display known as “Sweetheart”, responsible for attacking multiple boats in the 1970’s. The Museum and Art Gallery is located at Bullocky Point, Darwin Harbour is free of admission and opens on Mondays till Fridays from 9 am – 5 pm, and on weekends and public holidays from 10 am – 4 pm. However, it closes on Christmas, Boxing Day, New Years Day and Good Friday.

Mindil Beach Market – Visitors can enjoy the taste of five continents all in Mindil Beach, Darwin. Awarded and featured on many TV programs for its attractions and major events. It is famous for the wide range and quality of art and craftsmanship. No entrance fee! Have your palm read and listen to live bands and watch the sunset in your Campervan Hire Australia here.

The Mary River National Park – You’ll be off to a great start at Mary River National Park. Home to the biggest in size and highest concentration of saltwater crocodiles in the world. Jumping crocodiles, flocks of birds and award-winning visitor centres. This 135 km stretch of gateway to Kakadu is excellent for fishing and a bunch of other accommodations to do on the wetlands. Located about 150 kms east of Darwin along the Arnhem Highway. Travel during the dry season where roads tracks are accessible.

Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve – Boulders balancing on boulders, through millions of years of erosion. Found only in this Reserve. The local Aboriginal people believe that the boulders were once eggs of the Rainbow Serpent. Take a self-guided walking trail through the mysterious rock spheres near the outback of Tennant Creek. It is home to a wide variety of unique desert flora and fauna, and a great sunrise and sunset photo moment, too! Facilities include bbq’s, a picnic area, caravan parks, and a park space for your Campervan Hire.
