Cataract Gorge

Launceston, Tasmania 7250

"The Gorge" is something out of the ordinary found in Launceston. A 15-minute stroll from the city centre will lead you to Cataract Gorge Reserve, offering the best of nature, with a kiosk, a restaurant, swimming pool, peacocks, and wallabies but only at dusk. Take your adventure to a different height – rock climb and abseil the cliffs! Cataract Gorge have walking trails, abseiling and rock climbing activities for you to choose from. What's extreme is the Tamar River Cruise set from the seaport deep into the mouth of the Gorge. Another side of the Cataract Gorge is the suspension bridge that connects the Esk River and the Chairlift that lasts for about 10 minutes. Food are no problem in Cataract Gorge, there's a Basin Cafe located near the main station Chairlift opening for breakfast and lunch, and until the afternoon tea. Another dining pleasure is offered at the Gorge Restaurant, although not modernized, both menus and the taste are world class.
